(iii)

No subsistence allowance is issuable in respect of a period of travel where meals are included in the fare, nor in respect of journeys on ordinary or sick leave.

(iv) An officer travelling on duty away from his post who stays

with a Diplomatic Service colleague or with a member of the Home Civil Service or Armed Forces may be paid one-half of the appropriate subsistence rate, except that where the host officer is in Grade 8 or above in the Diplomatic Service or, if a member of the Civil Service or Armed Forces, is in receipt of am Entertainment Allowance or house guest allow-- ance in excess of £100 a year, the visiting officer may be paid:

(a)

One-third of the subsistence rate for each 24 hours of the visit if he takes both main meals with his host, or one main meal out for which he pays, or

(b)

one-half of the subsistence rate for each 24 hours of the visit if he takes bøth main meals out and pays for them.

Night subsistence allowances cover complete periods of 24 hours. Any balance of time of less than 24 hours at the end of a visit attracts subsistence as follows:

(a)

When a night is included in the balance the appropriate 24-hour/rate may be paid.

(b)

When a night is not included one-sixth of the appropriate

night rate, rounded up to the nearest lp for periods of more than 5 hours but not more than 10 hours and one-third of the appropriate night rate, rounded up to the nearest 1p for periods of more than 10 hours.

Day subsistence allowances, &c. In the case of official visits not extending over a night, day subsistence allowance, at the rates set out (iv) (b) may be paid to an officer, incurring extra expense on food as a result of an official visit to a place more than 5 miles by the pearest direct route from the officer's usual place of duty. Other admissible travelling expenses are specified in Diplomatic Service Bégulations.

28. Visitors must produce authorities. In no circumstances should any advance be issued to, no should any expenditure in respect of hotel bills, transport bookings, &c., be incurred on behalf of a traveller unless a Sub-Accounting Officer, is satisfied that the applicant is entitled to receive such facilities.
