UN COMMITTEE ON DECOLONISATION

1.

The UN Committee on Decolonisation was established in 1961 to examine the application of the Declaration on Decolonisation (General Assembly Resolution 1514 of 1960).

UK was a founder member but withdrew in 1971.

It has now been decided that, our relations with the Committee should be placed on a more co-operative footing. Full membership is not appropriate but we shall:

(i) supply information on our dependent

territories direct to the Committee;

(ii)

participate in debates in the Committee

on our dependent territories.

This decision will be discussed by the Permanent

Representative in New York with the Chairman
