The Anglo/Italian bid is due to be submitted

this week with official and possibly Ministerial

explanation from the DTI.

2. The consortium have not been able to quote a

price from the start, but undertake to do so by next

April. This is because they do not want finally to

commit themselves before the surveys are complete.

But they are thinking of a price that will be fully

competitive with the Japanese. All realise (not

least because we have told them) that the lack of

certainty will give you problems, but hope that their

its

proposals can be validated on their merits in the

light of the flexible response to the Japanese.
