1. My visit to the Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham was most interesting.
2. Professor Turnbull (who told me that he had met Mr. Orchard at an ISS meeting in Italy, I believe) is at present working on narcotics for the Home Office and the MOD. He is interested in narcotics generally, including sources of supply in South and South East Asia, particularly the Burmese-Thai- Chinese border areas. He gave me a copy (attached) of his paper on Narcotics, which he is at present engaged on up-dating.
3. Professor Turnbull is a member of the ISS and attends most meetings. He told me he was working on a paper on Russian psychological propaganda methods. He is acquainted with Peter Lyon, and since meeting Michael Leifer at the course on China and South East Asia, has attended his seminars at the LSE.
4. I also met the Director of the International Affairs course at Shrivenham. The course is 10% of all courses there.
Invitations are extended to academics to lecture at Shrivenham and several have visited the college from St. Anthony's College, Oxford. The Director of the course is working on a thesis on Russian influence in the Indian Ocean.
5. I explained a little of the work of the Section over lunch. I told Professor Turnbull that we would pass on references to unclassified material on drug production in South and South East
Asia.
6. The visit included a tour round the library and I was assured that in the event of our needing any books from their stock, we would be most welcome. I also looked at the computers and met the Professor who runs computer courses.
