I have the honour to refer to my letter dated the 14th of January, 1966, declaring the recognition by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in respect of the United Kingdom, of the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights. I also have the honour to refer to my letter dated the 12th of September, 1967, whereby the Government of the United Kingdom declared, on behalf of the territories for the international relations of which they are responsible specified in the list annexed to that letter, their recognition in respect of each of those territories of the jurisdiction of the Court.

The period for which the recognition of the jurisdiction of the Court was so declared was in each case stated to end on the 13th of January, 1969. On instructions from Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, I now have the honour to inform you that the Government of the United Kingdom hereby renew for the United Kingdom and for all the territories mentioned in the appendix to my letter dated the 12th of September, 1967 with the exception of Dominica, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, the declarations made in the said letters by prolonging this period for a further three years to end on the 13th of January, 1972. Except in relation to the date expiry of this period, the terms of the declarations shall remain unaffected.

I have the honour to refer to my letter of the 11th of January, 1969 renewing for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and for certain territories for the international relations of which the Government of the United Kingdom are responsible the earlier declarations of recognition or acceptance of the competence of the European Commission of Human Rights to receive petitions from persons, non-governmental organisations or groups of individuals.
