CORRUPTION IN HONG KONG
The Hon Member referred to the problem of corruption
in Hong Kong. As Hon Members may know, the Governor of
Hong Kong recently appointed Sir Alastair Blair-Kerr, a
judge of the High Court, to investigate the departure of
Mopore Sundde measur a senior policeman from the colony and to make a report.
The policeman, Chief Superintendent Godber, was under
active investigation for an offence against the Hong Kong
Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. Sir Alastair has now
submitted two reports which have been published. His As a result
main recommendation is that an independent Anti-Corruption
has been Commission should be set up separate from the Police Force,
tackle the problem of

with wide powers to deal with corruption in Hong Kong.
This problem certainly exists. But it should not be
exaggerated. The need is to discover and to punish corrupt
individuals.
Her Majesty's Government strongly support
the firm measures which the Governor is taking.
