SPONSORED VISIT BY MEMBERS OF HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

1. The following four Urban Councillors are to represent the

Council on an FCO sponsored visit from 21-31 October:

Mr Kenneth T C Lo (Appointed)

Mr Peter P K Ng (Appointed)

A list of Members of the Urban Council is attached.

3. FCO telegram number 694 to Hong Kong contained a tentative

outline programme. In their telegram number 969 Hong Kong

suggested cutting out certain sight-seeing tours and increasing

the 'working' time, particularly the visits to the GLC, and local

government generally. They also asked for time with MPs interested

in Hong Kong. This will be included in the visit to the House of

Commons on 25 October. The COI and IAD are now working on an

amended programme.

The draft programme includes a call at the FCO on Monday

22 October. This has not yet been definitely fixed, but it is

suggested that the group might call on Sir Duncan Watson and the

department.
