1. Purpose
The main object of this course is to review the essential aspects and the methodology of the evaluation process required by the implementation of nuclear power projects. The course will give a review of the methodology and results of the IAEA nuclear power market survey in 14 developing countries and discuss the implications of the results with particular reference to the ECAFE countries. It will stress the programming efforts and economio commitments involved in each stage of the evaluation and decision- making process in establishing a nuclear power programme, i.e. nuclear power surveys, nuclear power plant feasibility studies, selection of site and reactor plant types, preparation of bid documents and bid evaluation. Special attention will be given to regulatory and organizational requirements and to the need for trained staff at various levels in national authorities and eleotricity-generating utilities. It is expected that the discussion sessions will help in the exchange of valuable experience which has been gained by various countries in the region.

Participation
The course is open to nominees officially sponsored by Govern- ments. Nominations should be submitted in duplicate on the "Application for Training Course" form. Completed forms should be endorsed and returned through the appropriate Government authorities · (the authorities responsible for nuclear matters, the economic development authorities or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and must be received by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Kärntner Ring 11, P.O. Box 590, A-1011 Vienna, Austria, not later than 15 September 1973. Applications received after that date, or sent direct by individuals or by private instiutions will not be oonsidered.

Applicants should have a university degree in engineering or economios, or equivalent qualifications. In addition, they should have a good knowledge of nuclear power engineering or economics. The course will be particularly useful for those Government officials and managers from economic development authorities and electricity- generating utilities who are connected with the development of nuclear power programmes. Participants may be asked to prepare contributions on specific topics for discussion. As the lectures will be delivered in English, participants must have a good working knowledge of that language.
3. Nature of the Course
The course will last for two wooks. In order to ensure adequate individual attention it wil. be sustrioted to 30 participants.
