Mr G Cruikshank of the Immigration Department informed me today that at the present time regulations did not permit the waiver of the payment of the $30, it even applied to himself, but it was hoped that a solution would be forthcoming shortly.
9. Briefing and Travel Section are requested to confirm the issue of the letter or an endorsement stamp will be arranged as soon as possible. It would not be practical for the Administration Officer to send the letters to the Section in advance, particularly if time is limited.
10.
Nationality and Treaty Department are requested to investigate and advise if an easier solution can be found to the problem. It does seem rather unnecessary for Foreign and Commonwealth Office staff appointed to Hong Kong to have their passports endorsed for a limited period when the officer expects to be in post for two or more years. If I have addressed this request to the wrong Department, please
re-direct.
