open at Ping Shek this year. In addition, a study room was opened last

November in Kowloon Park for the benefit of students.

Membership for borrowing books is free to all residents in

Hong Kong. In the past 10 years, some 268,000 persons have registered

for membership of these public libraries, and over 75 per cent are

students.

The libraries offer a comprehensive range of books. At the

end of October last year, there was a book stock of 133,900 in English

and 235.900 in Chinese. In addition, issues of 756 newspapers and

periodicals were obtained.
