Amendment of regulation 24.

3. Regulation 24 of the principal regulations

is amended in sub-paragraph (e) by deleting "face"

and substituting the following

"back".

Addition of regulation 40A.

4. The principal regulations are amended by

adding, after regulation 40, the following regulations

"Destruction, loss, etc., of ballot

papers.

40A. (1) If before or during taking

a poll at a polling station any ballot

paper or copy of the register of electors

is stolen, lost, destroyed or damaged and

the presiding officer at that polling

station is of the opinion that the out-

come of the poll is likely to be affected

thereby, he may in his absolute discretion,

at any time prior to the close of the poll,

declare the poll at that polling station

to be void.

(2) When a poll is declared void

under sub-paragraph (1) the returning

officer shall appoint a day not later than

seven days after the day appointed for that

poll for the taking of a fresh poll at that

polling station or, if in his opinion it is

impracticable to hold a fresh poll at such

polling station, at another polling

station in the same electoral district and
