about majority local ownership and in respect of the issue of a proportion

of public shares in the companies. Both these requirements would have to

be met within a specified period of time.

It is also hoped that an announcement of awards of licences

might be made during the second half of 1973 although every effort will

be made to advance this date as far as practicable.

The Authority also stated that HKTVB would shortly be offered

a renewal of its licence for a further period subject to amendments to

meet proposed changes in the Television Ordinance and subsidiary legislation.

Rediffusion (Hong Kong) Ltd. will also be offered an extension

of their existing wired television licence (which expires on April 30, 1973)

until such time as the second wireless station goes on the air. Meanwhile

Government policy on the future of wired television in Hong Kong after the

expiry of Rediffusion's licence (including any extension to it) and in the

light of the decision to license two additional wireless television stations

is under consideration and an announcement on this will be made later.
