XRediffusion to bid for×
new TV station
Rediffusion (Hongkong) Lid announced yesterday that it had formed a consortium of local commercial interests to bid for the new wireless tele vision franchise.
Rediffusion's television ser- vice, the first to be estab- lished in Hongkong, began in 1957 offering Chinese and English programmes subscribers through its cable
system.

The spokesman claimed that in the course of developing the television service in Hongkong, Rediffusion had become the largest producer of Chinese TV programme material in Asia.
Government had announced that it would license two more wireless TV stations in Hongkong as soon as possible after HK-TVB's exclusive franchise expires in November.

more television channels because it would stimulate strong competition between the operators to produce more programmes.
But they stressed that the existing and new stations must place more emphasis in putting out good quality programines.
Community and kaifong leaders were unanimous yesterday that the viewers' opinion should be heeded.
They said children and young people could easily be influenced by television. Thus, sex and violence which tended to attribute to mounting crimes should be removed from the
screen.
Tusy felt that there should be more programmes
of educational nature or related to life in Hongkong.
For IIK-TVR, the Managing Director, Mr Andrew Eu, said his company was not quite keen on the second station announced by Government on Tuesday.
But Mr Eu said he would seek more information on the third station, the Chinese-only channel, before referring this to
the Board for discussion and consideration.
Mr Eu added that he was puzzled by the "specialis.d services" which the new channel should offer as declared by Government.

Rediffusion spokesm. said the asscis of the consortium would consist of a substantial part of the existing assets of the two-programa". television service already in operation, plus the uțansmitting equipment and additional studio equipment which would be needed for the new off ar service.
The twofold aim of the station would be, firstly, to provide, within 12 months of the award of the licencs, a comprehensive programme service enabling a high percentage of viewers to enjoy good reception from the commencement of trans- missions.
Secondly, he said Rediffusion would offer an cfficient and ethical commercial service to the highest professional standard to advertisers and their agents.
