As you know, Mr. Rippon has made a number of foreign R.E. WICK 3/25/12

/6/12 visits outside Europe in the past two years, to consult

mainly Commonwealth Governments about our entry to the Community, and to spread the European gospel to a wider fine public. He has so far visited the Cld Commonwealth (spoken me (Australia, New Zealand and Canada), the Caribbean, Hong Kong and the United States.

Mr. Rippon thinks that, before we actually enter the Community on 1 January next year, it would be useful if he were to take the opportunity of the Summer Recess to visit a number of those Commonwealth countries where he has not yet been., He hopes to meet those concerned with our entry to the Community in each country to discuss its effects on them, and perhaps to make a public speech if appropriate. He would also no doubt appear on television, and give press interviews. The object would, of course, be to explain our own policies, to dispel misapprehensions and to reassure Commonwealth countries that we shall not, as members of the Community, neglect them.
