TALKS WITH CHINESE LEADERS
8. Three full sessions of several hours' duration with the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chi Peng-fei, one with Chou
En-lai and if possible one with Mao Tse-tung.
Discussions
will inevitably be lengthy because of the need for simultaneous
interpretation and the Chinese wish to cover bilateral and
international relations in detail.

ENTERTAINMENT
9. This seems likely to involve a banquet to be given by the
Chinese, possibly by Chou En-lai and a return dinner party to
be given by the Secretary of State preferably at the guesthouse
(the Residence dining room cannot accommodate more than 20).
In addition a luncheon party for EEC Ambassadors and a social
meeting with members of the Embassy at the Embassy Club is
recommended.

SIGHTSEEING
The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs,
the Great Wall of China and an agricultural commune.

Members of the Embassy can interpret at social functions.

Between 20 and 24 journalists are likely to wish to cover
the Secretary of State's visit. A number of them would only
