14.

The Hong Kong Protection of Tiao Yu Tai Action Committee was formed by some members of the Chong Kin Experimental College, 84 Tam Kung Road, 10th floor, in February 1971. (The Chong Kin Experimental College is a study circle formed by a group of non- confirming intellectuals in 1968 who were not satisfied with the education system in Hong Kong and wanted to do something about it. Their object is to arouse the interest of young people in literature and arts and to create a new learning environment. Courses are run on an informal discussion basis with no examinations and no distinction between teachers and students). The committee organised a demonstration outside the Japanese Consulate-General on the 18th February 1971. It was not supported by the college which disseciated itself from this group over the demonstrations and forbade it the use of the Chong Kin Experimental College premises because of the pro-communist attitude of the group.

The committee also figured prominently in the 7th July 1971 Victoria Park demonstration and subsequent demonstrations. is composed of students, teachers, factory workers etc.
