I am replying to your letter of 26 August about the

Hong Kong Immigration Bill.

Although the Bill has been introduced into the Hong Kong

Legislative Council some of its provisions are still the

subject of correspondence between this department and

the Bill

the Governor and will be amended in certain respects

before it is enacted (probably at the beginning of

October).

The Bill does not seek to impose on citizens of the

United Kingdom and Colonies any restrictions on their restrictions freedom of entry into Hong Kong other than those which

have been in existence for several years. However, one

purpose of the Bill is to facilitate the removal from
