One new departure in the Hong Kong

Government's approach to resettlement of

squatters is that, for the first time, they are

proposing to resettle some squatters from land

not required for development.

Until now, it

has only been in respect of areas required for

development that Clearance and resettlement of

squatters has been made. Although only 30,000

such squatters will be rehoused in the next

five years, it is a start.
