1. Mr Kidd's letter to me of 23 July and my reply have cleared up the small point about the arrangements for the announcement of the appointment of Puisne Judges/when Mr Blair-Kerr became Senior Puisne Judge. There is however one loose end. Are these appointments still put in the London Gazette? Mr Lambert's minute to me of 7 July refers. views one way or the other but I think we should know what is done.

As to the letter from Mr Simpkin of the ODA, would like to write to Mr Kidd - rather belatedly I fear - referring to my letter to Mr Holmes of 4 November 1970 and giving him the outcome of the deliberations in the ODA on this matter over the last 8 months. Would you please draft?
