arafat reiterates palestinians' determination to persist in armed struggle

damascus, august 21 (hsinhua) -- the palestinian people are determined to persist in their armed struggle, said chairman yasser arafat of the executive committee of the palestine liberation organization (p.l.o.) and general commander of the palestinian revolutionary forces at the opening session of the fourth conference of the palestinian general trade union held here yesterday. arafat said, "the path of our struggle is difficult and long, but in spite of that, the palestinian revolutionaries will go on this path till victory":

he said: u.s. imperialism and its running dogs made a mistake when they thought that by attacking the palestinian guerrillas in (jerash-ajlun) forests with their aircraft, tanks and artillery, they could defeat our revolution.

addressing the opening session, abou luttuf, member of the p.l.o. executive committee, said, "the jordanian Lackey regime has revealed its wicked intentions to liquidate the palestinian revolution. successive experiences have continuously confirmed that the jordanian Lackey regime is tied to american imperialism and its imperialist policy in the arab area." *this time, supported by c.i.a. and world zionism, it attacked the commandos openly."

fatahi raghib, secretary general of the palestinian general trade union, said at the opening session, our people and masses have countered the imperialist schemes valiantly, inside our occupied land and in jordan. they have stepped up their struggle and revolution, showing that they insist on continuing the revolution, reject all liquidationist and capitulationist solutions and are resolved to continue the armed struggle till they liberate all palestinian soil."

he also condemned u.s. imperialism for intervening in indochina and voiced support to all the liberation movements in asia, africa and latin america.

in his speech at the session, marawan sabbagh, syrian minister of labour and social affairs and representative of syrian president hafez assad praised the palestinian commandos for their struggle against all the reactionary forces. the commando action is the symbol of the arab conscience, he said.

a cable sent to the conference by jordanian parliament member mahmoud rousan on behalf of the preparatory committee of the jordanian national united front said, "we put our hands into yours to face the enemies of the people, revolution and Liberation.
