the next twelve months or so. The alter- netives at present would seem to be:- a) We persuade the Community to drop the duty-free quotas on textiles from the GFS of the Ten,
b) We introduce into the GIS of the UK on 1 January 1974 duty free quotas on all textiles calculated not on our total volume of imports from GPS beneficiary countries, but on a more restricted basis.
For the moment, there seems little chance of the Commission agreeing to alternative a). Alternative b) however, would al
callay the Commision's fears of a flood of XxxAlas textiles into the Ten. It would enable us to match, but not exceed the duty quota imports of textiles under the GPS by other members of the enlarged Community."
Paragraph 10 b): amend last two lines to
read "we should allow imports from them duty free at least up to the EEC GPS level."
