(i) Operational
Pakistan was inspected earlier this year.
Considerable economies in information work were
'recommended to the Inspectors by Departments
and these were adopted in their Report. They
are at present being implemented.
(ii) Future Development
It is difficult to forecast events in Pakistan at
present. As far as information work is
concerned, the two UK-based officers in Dacca
have been temporarily withdrawn, but activities
in West Pakistan are proceeding normally.
(iii) British Council and BBC

in East Pakistan in present circumstances.

(iv) Overall assessment
The
Pakistan remained a somewhat extravagant operation,
by current standards, for longer than we would
wish. Advantage was taken, however, of the
recent inspection to recommend a thorough-going
