APPOINTMENTS AND REAPPOINTMENTS OF NOMINATED OFFICIAL MEMBERS TO THE HONG KONG EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE COUNCILS
PROBLEM
1. In his telegram No 381 the Acting Governor has
reminded us that the appointments of all nominated
Official Members of the Executive Council (1 member)
and the Legislative Council (8 members) will expire at
the end of this month; and he seeks approval of the
proposals set out in his telegram for dealing with the
situation.

3. In May 1970 we agreed to the Governor's suggestion
that all the nominated Official Members then holding
office in the Executive and Legislative Councils should
be reappointed for one year from 1 July 1970 to
30 June 1971. With two exceptions, the Acting
Governor is now proposing that all the present nominated
