Sir Leslie Monson

4. Miss Tinman has told us that Mr Gilbert of the Department of the Environment is on holiday until 19 April so is his PA. I have asked Bell to fix an appointment with him for some time on the morning of 3 May. We have also heard from Miss Tinman that the Council for Technical Education and Training for Overseas Countries is to be reconstituted. Sir Frederick Pedler is the new chairman and he would be very glad to meet you. He has suggested lunch on 28 or 29 June or 1 or 2 July at the Reform Club) If it would help, we can easily get a message to him if you would like us to do so.

you

5. I must now explain what we have done in the Department since taking over from #iss Tinman. I have mentioned to Leslie Monson what you have in mind and he has asked me to tell you that he looks forward to seeing you on Tuesday 4 May. He has asked me to apologise to you on his behalf for not writing himself; he is off on leave tomorrow and is up to his eyes in work that must be cleared before he goes. He hopes you will be able to have lunch with him on 4 May and has now suggested that it would perhaps be better if you could come to the Office at 11.30 instead of 11.15 (as previously arranged by Miss Tinman).

6. Apart from that, I must confirm that the Overseas Police

Michael Adviser is also Inspector General of Colonial Police. Macoun has the job at present. He would very much like to see you and we have made an appointment for 10.00 a.m. on Monday 3 May. We thought it best that you should see him before you go to New Scotland Yard.
