Dear Saminara
Further to my letter No. CR 4/5701/61 of 24 August about Princess Alexandra's visit, you will recall that at your suggestion I proposed three alternative times when H.R.H. might visit here.
We could in fact have suggested other times, and the Governor's idea in having a word with Mr. Ogilvy was merely to ascertain whether he had sufficient knowledge of H.R.H's engagements to know whether these suggested dates were likely to prove starters or quite out of the question, in which case we would suggest others. Sir David has asked me to say that he hopes you will not think he was attempting any undesirable short-circuiting of the proper channels.
In the event, Mr. Ogilvy was unable to say with any certainty whether the dates we have suggested were likely to prove suitable or not: but the Governor got some impression that dates later in the year might be more convenient to H.R.H. If this is so, we could of course easily suggest
some.
I am afraid therefore that the discussion with Mr. Ogilvy, although the Governor thought the approach worth trying, has not taken the matter much further. We would be grateful if you would now let us know whether any of the three periods suggested has been found suitable or whether we should suggest other dates later in 1971.
