Excluding cost of housing, passages, entertainment and childrens' education and passage allowances, the cost of a married officer to the FCO would be £6405 whereas the cost to the Hong Kong Government of a Senior Administrative Officer posted to FCO London would be £4470 per annum. If each side paid the staff actually working for them, it appears that the FCO would be £1935 per annum in credit over the exchange.
