when the senior members of the party were accommodated in Embassy houses. The Secretary of State will, of course, need to have his Private office where he stays and Robin Haydon will either need to be able to use the office of your Information Counsellor as was done before, or if he is in a hotel, he will need a suite where he can see journalists.

Communications
There will, of course, have to be a 24-hour cypher watch while the Secretary of State is in Tokyo. Communications Depar°t- ment feel that your cypher staff will probably need augmenting as usual and are going into this.
6.
Security
The Private office has to be under a 24-hour security guard, but I do not think this presents any difficulties to you on the basis of the information we have had from the Embassy on the previous visits.
7.
Stationery and Office Equipment --
The Secretary of State's Personal Assistants will bring their own portable typewriters with them, together with their own special stationery, but it would be helpful if you could provide Robin Haydon's Personal Assistant with a typewriter and with normal stationery for all the party.
8. Transport
We imagine that you will be able to provide all the transport necessary for the party, but if you have to hire any cars could you let us know how many and what the cost is likely to be.
9.
Presents
You may know that the Japanese Foreign Minister somewhat unexpectedly gave the Foreign Secretary a radio when he was last in London and Far Eastern Department feel, therefore, that the Secretary of State must on this occasion take a gift with him for the Japanese Foreign Minister. It would be helpful if you could let us have any suggestions as to what you think might be accept- able. As you know we like to try and keep the exchange of presents down to the minimum and we would hope that there would not be any need for any wider exchange of gifts.
10.
Entertainment
We should be glad to know what you envisage will be required in the way of official entertainment from the United Kingdom side.
