San Pancho Hotel
Jan Bancho Hotel
If Miss Booker wishes to bring a Personal Assistant, it will be a little difficult to accommodate her as at the moment there are no more rooms available at the San Bancho. However, the Information Counsellor has offered to put his facilities at ner disposal and she may feel it unnecessary to bring a F.A. with her. r. reenwood has also offered Miss Booker a study at House No. 3 which could be used for seeing journalists. Ine Aubassador has agreed that the Secretary of State should have the use of his study in the Residence and the two adjoining rooms to that study can be used as a private office with desks for both Privite secretaries and both. .A.s. Please let us know who the Secretary of State particularly wishes to have living under the same roof us himself.
Communications
5. Arrangements are being made for a urade 10 from Singapore to come to Tokyo for the period as well as and additional D.W.3. operator, probably the Regional Officer from Singapore.
Security
6.
You atated that the rivate Office has to be on 24- hour guard. Normally no confidential papers are held in the Residence since they are usually deposited in the Chancery kegistry (the Residence and Chancery building are practically next door to each other). During the period of the secretary of state's visit the Megistry, which is part of the secure area adjoining our Communications, will be open round the clock. There is no reason therefore why papers should not be deposited in the Registry in the usual way, after their owners have finished using them. With the resources available, it would be very difficult for us to mount a separate 24-hour sacurity guurd on the Private Office and study area in the Residence. I assume that one detective will be on duty there or in the area for part of the time (could you tell us the drill on this?) and we can augment the guard on the building by placing one of our long-serving Japanese watchmen, who normally man the front gate of the compound, in a small room by the porch entrance to the Residence.
Stationery and Office Equipment

We can provide the necessary typewriter and stationery.
