much more favourable than in past years, will Britain

consider more extensive investments and joint enterprises in

Hong Kong

ANSWER:

I agree that Britain's balance of payments has much

improved but we are still at a stage in strengthening our

economy when we cannot afford to relax the measures that

have led to this welcome development. Investment in Hong

Kong by private individuals or business concerns in the

United Kingdom is entirely a matter for these individuals

or concerns.
