Mr. Royle's Proposed Visit to Hong Kong, Thailand

and Cambodia

Mr. Royle has noted that at the recent meeting of the

Ministerial Visits Committee the P.U.S. reserved the

Secretary of State's position on his projected visits to

Thailand, Cambodia and Hong Kong because it seemed likely

to overlap with the Secretary of State's absence in the

U.S.A. (19-29 September) and the Minister of State's visit

to Australia and Fiji (1–14 October).

2. In view of this Mr. Royle would now like to suggest

putting his trip back to the middle of October. If he

left on 9 October he could still be in Hong Kong for the

dates originally proposed (10-12 October) and would then

visit Cambodia and Thailand on the way home. His trip

would still overlap with five days of Mr. Godber's absence,

but perhaps this would not matter if other Ministers would

be in London at that time.

In the hope that it will be possible for the Secretary

of State to approve this revised proposal, Mr. Royle has
