In considering this proposal you will wish, as

indicated in Miss Deas' minute of 28 July, to know the

planned movements of other Ministers during October.

first immovable fixture is the Party Conference from 7-10

October, which presumably will take you and Mr. Rippon to

Blackpool. Apart from this Mr. Godber is to be away from

London from 1-14 October for the Fiji Independence Celebrations.

Mr. Rippon will no doubt wish to visit some of his European

colleagues in the early part of the month, before the meeting

with the E.E.C. in Luxembourg on 16/17 October. Lord Lothian

has plans to visit West Africa from 23-30 October, and you

may decide to accompany the Prime Minister to New York from

approximately 19-24 October. On this basis, therefore, if

Mr. Royle were to bring his dates forward as suggested and

could arrange to be back by 22 October, the various arrangements

proposed should be managable.
