BR. P. JEFFS,
P.8. to P.U.5, for
1. MCCLUNEY
P.3. TO S. F s.
Defence for the R.N.
M.O.D.
Would you please refer to your letter dated
13 August to Simcock at No.10, outlining the proposals
for Mr. Peter Kirk's visit to Bahrain and the Far East
from 25 September to 9 October and copied to
John Brown for prior Foreign and Commonwealth Office
approval.
2. As you already know from our telephone
conversation of 10 September, there is no Foreign and
Commonwealth Office objection in principle to the
proposed visit as outlined in Simcɔck's letter. We
have telegraphed the posts, who have agreed that the
dates proposed are convenient.
However, H.M.
Ambassador, Kuala Lumpur has recommended that,
although a visit to Kuala Lumpur would be useful,
a day-visit would seem preferable as there are no
naval-sales questions which could be usefully raised
at this time. A lunch at which Mr. Kirk will be able
to meet appropriate Halaysian representatives ia ales
being arranged and CINCFE will adjuat Mr. Kirk's
programme in Singapore to fit in with this timing.
