STAGE III OF AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT ALMOST COMPLETE

Passenger Handling Facilities Now Ready For Jumbo Jets

The work involved in Stage III of the Airport Development, which is

nou substantially completed, is aimed primarily at improving the facilities

for passenger processing, both arrivals and dopartures.

The improvement and additions are designed to give a capacity to handle

2,200 passengers per hour and not only the passengers themselves but also thair

baggage.

In addition, certain provisions have had to be made to accommodato

the larger types of aircraft soon to come into service. Those aircraft, because of their shoor sizo, prosent special problems in parking and ground

handling.

In the main, the work carried out in Stage III has, with the exception

of the neu 747 pior and its associated air bridges, boen confined within the

existing framework of the original Terminal Building.

Courtyard and certain other open areas have been built-in to givo moro

space at Ground and First floor levels and tho former Port Health Hall, which

was virtually a soparate building, has now become part of the Terminal Building

structuro.
