JA.

As you doubtless know, Sir John Cowperthwaite in his budget speech of 25 February somewhat unwillingly gave the green light for the Kai Tak extension project. He nevertheless claimed to be unconvinced of the necessity for this extension and still seemed to believe that the possibility of a United Kingdon loan was not completely ruled out even now.

I enclose a copy of an article on this project issued in the Hong Kong Information Services Daily Information Bulletin of 26 February which gives a number of useful details.

This seems to be a project which is of more interest to British contractors than British manufacturers although clearly there should be scope for the sale of earth moving machinery to contractors local or otherwise and, of course, of equipment for ancillary works, e.g. lighting.
