14.12 After consideration the three P.W.D. Roads & Drainage Divisions are of the opinion that strengths of existing bridges would probably permit the transportation of containers now on most of the main roads on the north side of Hong Kong Island and on the Mainland as far as Ting Kau and Sha Tin. Furthermore the proposed new trunk road between Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long via Castle Peak would also be able to carry this type of traffic in the future.

14.13 The degree of restriction on times of travel and routes would mostly depend on the predicted amount of other traffic and on road widths, since the long trailers occupy a lot of room at bends. Following a recent trial run of a tractor and trailer with two 20-ft. containers, the Commissioner for Transport has been able to define the restrictions which would apply to 24-ft. and 35-ft. containers carried on trailers travelling between Tsim Sha Tsui and Kwun Tong.

14.14 It is concluded from the foregoing that the transportation of containers by road from the Kwai Chung Container Terminal would probably be possible subject to certain conditions but these should nevertheless permit satisfactory operations.
