Gentlemen,

Hong Kong Department,

Copyright Protection in Hong Kong
I am replying to your letter JVW/PJL/CAB of 23 June on the above subject.
The copyright position in Hong Kong is at present governed by the United Kingdom Copyright Act, 1911, as modified by local Hong Kong legislation. The United Kingdom Copyright Act, 1956, has not been extended to Hong Kong, and unless and until it is so extended, Hong Kong cannot become a party to the Universal Copyright Convention.
The possibility of extending the 1956 Act to Hong Kong is now under consideration.
Yours faithfully,
(A. W. Gaminara)
