Hse, S.E.1.

Thank you for your letter of 9 November about bouat the Hong Kong defence contribution.

2. I agree that we should have an early meeting

to discuss the Governor's latest proposals. Would 11.30 a.m. on Friday 27 November in my room

(Room No.37, Downing Street West) be convenient to

Jagree with Gedling's suggeren you?

R. Gedling, Esq, Treasury Chambers, Grt.George St, S.W.1.

I suggest that we should try to reach

agreement among ourselves before bringing the Governor

into the discussion. He will be in the UK on leave

until 11 December and I am sure he will be glad to

come to London for a meeting if we find that

necessary.

I am copying this letter to Stetton and

Gedling and would be glad if they would confirm that

the date and time proposed for our further discussion

is convenient to them.
