Thank you for your letter of 9 November about the Hong Kong defence contribution.

I agree that we should have an early meeting to discuss the Governor's latest proposals, Would 11.30 a.m. on Friday, 27 November in my room (Room No. 37 Downing Street Vest) be convenient to you? I agree with Gedling's suggestion that we should try to reach agreement among ourselves before bringing the Governor into the discussion.

He will be in the U.K. on leave until 11 Decem- ber and I am sure he will be glad to some up to London for a meeting if we find that necessary.

I am copying this letter to Strettan and Gedling and would be glad if they would confirm that the date and time proposed for our further discussion is convenient to them.
