GRANTS FOR MATRICULATION COURSES
Applications Through Heads Of Schools
***
Government maintenance grants are awarded annually to needy pupils
with good results in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education examination who
wish to continue matriculation studies
set forms through heads of schools.

An Education Department spokesman said today the forms would be available in July, and should be returned to the secretary of the maintenance grants committee, Education Department.
They should reach him not later than 10 days after the start of
the new school term.
Suitable applicants could be required to attend an
interview, and the total grants would be paid through heads of schools at the end of each month in arrears for 10 months in the year, excluding July and August.
The spokesman said award of these grants was based on a number of general principles. One was that applicants must have obtained results in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education examination (English) in the
year of award of a sufficiently high level to show they were likely to be successful in matriculation studies, and another was that their characters had to be satisfactory.
Priority would be given to applicants who appeared to the committee to be suitable for, and likely to enter, the teaching profession.
