Dear Mr. Barber,

Thank you for your letter of the 20th July. I realise that you must be frightfully busy at the moment and am quite happy to defer a meeting until it suits your convenience.

I note you will be getting in touch with me in a few weeks time and would mention that I expect to be away on the Continent from the 6th to the 12th August.

What a tragic blow we have all suffered by the death of Iain Macleod. This, of course, may affect your own position but we can only wait and see. In the meantime with my best wishes and kindest regards.
