Hong Kong and the EEC

Denman, Under Secretary Board of Trade, who is a

member of our negotiating team for entry into EEC,

would like to visit Hong Kong to discuss with appropriate people problems involved for Hong Kong in our joining enlarged Communities. Visit would be for briefing purposes and he would like it carried out as discreetly as possible, confining his contacts to officials. If, however, it proved desirable that he should see anyone outside official circles and if this could be done without infringing the "discreet" nature

of his visit suitable arrangements could no doubt be

made during his time in Hong Kong.

Owing to other commitments Denman would plan to

leave here on 3 August arriving in Hong Kong on the

afternoon of 4 August and to stay for three full days

or so.

for visit will be convenient to you.
