There is also much scope in this Colony for joint ventures of various kinds between United Kingdom and Hong Kong firms to the mutual benefit of both parties. Strangely enough British firms have hitherto shown little interest in this possibility and have left the field largely in the hands of the Americans (especially in the electronics industry) the Japanese, and, in the watch industry, the Swiss (the latter supplying the movements and Hong Kong manufacturing the case and dial).
As an official of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries said recently to a member of the British Trade Commission "Why do not British businessmen and manufacturers come and share our prosperity with us?"
