Trade Union Legislation

In your minute of 15 October at (27) you asked me to draft a follow-up telegram to our telegram No. 700 to Hong Kong, dealing with outstanding points raised by Legal Advisers.

This I have done but you have now told me that the telegram should not issue.

3. The situation in regard to letters from M.Ps. about Trade Union legislation is as follows:-

a) Mr. Judd, M.P. wrote to Mr. Godber

at (8) enclosing Memorandum from Mr. England. Interim reply was sent at (9). Mr. Royle may have talked to Mr. England in Hong Kong: FCO telegram to Tokyo at (22) refers. Mr. Royle may have views on the form of reply we should send to Mr. Judd.

(b) Mr. Johnson M.P. evidently also wrote

to Mr. Royle about Mr. England's Memorandum. This is referred to in FCO telegram to Tokyo at (22). but we have no copies of correspondence. Miss Deas may have details on her return.

(c)Mr. Blaker, M.P. wrote to Mr. Royle at (14) about the Financial Times. article and a full reply was sent at (32). No further action required.

(a)Mr. Vic. Feather wrote to the Secretary

of State at (11) and interim reply was sent at (12). Mr. Feather's letter was itself an interim one and we can expect a further letter from him.
