SHORTER WORKING HOURS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE, WOMEN IN INDUSTRY
Fourth Phase Of Programme Starts Tomorrow

From tomorrow, December 1, the maximum standard working hours of 16 and 17 year old boys and girls and all women employed in industry will be reduced.
The fourth stage of a programme for the progressive reduction of the maximum standard working hours of industrial workers in accordance with the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Amendment) Regulations 1967 becomes
operative then.
From tomorrow until November 30, 1971, the maximum standard working hours will be eight hours 20 minutes a day and 50 hours a week, For the same period, the amount of overtime which may be worked in a year will be increased from the present limit of 240 hours to 270,
Proprietors of factories and industrial undertakings are reminded that they must observe the new standard working hours from tomorrow, unless they have obtained permission in writing from the Commissioner of Labour to exceed those for a limited period.
Failure to observe the new standard working hours without this
permission may lead to prosecution,
