WORK OF UMEICO OFF ICE

Mr. Primrose Reviews First Ten Wecks

2

The office of the unofficial members of the Executive and Legislative

Councils (UMELCO) helped resolve 15 cases of complaints by members of the

public against government departments in the last 10 weeks.

In some of these successes, the departments themselves took action

on the matters complained of but in others, the change of decision was

entirely, or partly, due to the intervention of UMELCO.

In a further 14 cases, UMELCO was able to give assistance, advice,

information or explanation to the person concerned, and in another 15 cases,

UMELCO concluded that the original decisions were correct, or the remedy

sought was contrary to established government policy.

Mr. R.W. Primrose, UMELCO administrative secretary, gave the se

statistics in a talk on UMELCO to members of the Lions Club at a luncheon

meeting today.

He said with his appointment, steps were taken to institute an

effective system of dealing with complaints and representations received from

the general public, and this had been in operation for ten weeks.
