Haji A.V. Careem

Haji A.V. Careem born 14th November, 1904, is a

Ceylonese jewel merchant who frequently travels between Hong

Kong and Europe on business. He holds Ceylonese Passport No. 34203 and operates the Eastern Gem Co. at 16/4 Mody Road,

Kowloon. In 1965 he was nominated as Chairman of the presidium of U.N.A.H.K. by MA Man Fai when MA resigned the chairmanship to allay criticism that he had monopolised the post. Careem held the post until November, 1968, when he was elected Execu- tive Secretary of U.N.A.H.K. for the term 1968/69. He strongly supports MA's campaign for self-government in Hong Kong. He also takes an active part in the U.N.A.H.K.
