TANG Chai On

TANG Chai On (6772/7871/1344) was born in 1921 in

Ha Chuen, New Territories (N.T.). He owns the Yue Wo Tong

Oyster Restaurant and a number of oyster beds in Lau Fau Shan,

and is chairman of the Ha Chuen Rural Committee in the N.T.

He joined the U.N.A.H.K, in 1968 after he had criticised the

Hong Kong Government for failing to provide adequate protection

for oyster bed workers abducted to the Chinese mainland in

November, 1967. Since becoming a member of the U.N.A.H.K.

he has submitted several petitions to both the Hong Kong and

United Kingdom Governments requesting more protection for his

workers while working in oyster beds. On 21st November, 1968,

he was elected an Executive Committee member of the U.N.A.H.K.

On 27th January, 1969, he aired his complaint to Mr. Anthony

Royle, a visiting M.P. On 29th June, 1969, he became a member

of the L.A.C.
