APPENDIX A (2)

AMERICAN NUCLEAR SUBMARINE ENTERS HONG KONG HARBOUR SERIOUSLY THREATENING THE SAFETY OF

LOCAL RESIDENTS

EJECTION OF RADIOACTIVE ELEMENTS & THE ATOMIC PILE ITSELF ARE BOTH EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

IF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS IN HONG KONG WATERS THE LIVES OF SEVERAL MILLION RESIDENTS WOULD BE ENDANGERED.

At the time when the U.S. is expanding its war of aggression against Vietnam, a large number of U.S. warships are gathering in Hong Kong waters. The "Permit", a nuclear attack submarine, recently entered Hong Kong harbour and is now moored off Stonecutters Island. Also in the group of U.S. warships in Hong Kong is the missile equipped cruiser, "Oklahoma" flagship of Rear-Admiral Williams, Commander of the U.S. 7th fleet, and the aircraft carrier, "Oriskany", which is flying the flag of Rear Admiral 'Ko San Shi' (phonetic) Commander of the 9th aircraft carrier squadron. What is the purpose of the visit of this U.S. fleet to Hong Kong?

Rocket Torpedoes Which Can Be Fitted With Nuclear Warheads.

The U.S. nuclear submarine "Permit", which has entered Hong Kong waters on this occasion is a new S.S.N. offensive type of submarine. Her design is the same as that of the "Thresher" type. Her displacement is 3,750 tons and her length about 93 meters. She has four 21" torpedo tubes and carries Suprock rocket torpedoes which can be fitted with nuclear warheads. She has frequently carried out aggressive war activities in the South China Sea including South Vietnamese territorial

waters.

U.S. nuclear submarines similar to the "Permit" are on active duty at sea, and every so often they visit Hong Kong to take on provisions, ammunition, fuel, and change crews. Has the "Permit" which has now entered Hong Kong waters, adopted Hong Kong as a supply base?

>

It is the belief of Hong Kong residents that since the "Permit" carries Suprock rocket torpedoes which can be fitted with nuclear warheads, she constitutes a serious threat. In fact such a submarine is nothing more than a live nuclear bomb, and should she have any mishap whilst in Hong Kong waters it would be an unparalleled catastrophe for the people of Hong Kong.
