S of S's VISIT TO HONG KONG

Please refer to the brief on the Hong Kong Garrison which was circulated under cover of my minute D/DS/6/7/134/501 dated 11th June, 1969.

2. In paragraph 15 reference is made to the need for additional married quarters for 425 Gurkha families. The joint MOD/MPBW team has finished its examination of the problem and has recommended that the quarters be provided by the PWD as a normal works service. Construction by a local speculator, which was the other possible method, would be more expensive and slower. It is recommended that 60 should be at Perowne Barracks, and the remainder at Sek Kong. They would be constructed to be readily convertible for other uses.
