I wrote to you on the 16th July, 1968, about
the raising of charges by HM Government against the
Hong Kong Government in respect of costs of various
facilities, personnel, etc., which were provided by
the Services in connexion with the 1967 disturbances
in the Colony. I believe that you have since had
discussions with the Deputy Command Secretary in
Hong Kong about this matter and am wondering whether
you are yet in a position to let us have a report on
the outcome of those discussions. I recall that
when you were over here last September, you
mentioned to me that, with the exception of certain
minor items such as hospitalisation charges for
policemen, you thought that Hong Kong would be able
to accept all the charges raised by the Services.
Can you now confirm this?
We have had an enquiry from the Ministry of
Defence on the subject and it would be most helpful
if you would let us know the present position.
